A wide-open £12,000 feature event is the highlight on a competitive six-race Saltire card as the curtain is raised for the new jumps season at Musselburgh.
From the top-weight Kandor, trained by Lucinda Russell, down to Dianne Sayer’s bottom-weight Cardamon Hill every horse lining-up for the Prince Philip Perpertual Challenge Trophy Handicap Chase has some sort of chance.
And, on their best form, others such as Ganapathi, Brandy McQueen could all be involved in the business end of this near three-mile contest.
In the opening Join Racing TV Now Novices’ Hurdle, Irish challenger Impero could take all the beating under Carl Millar, his first ride at the East Lothian venue.
The gelding a second runner at the track for Cian Collins, is on a hat-trick after his strikes last month in a maiden hurdle at Downpatrick and a handicap hurdle at Cheltenham.
Millar and Collins also team up with There’s No Limit in the Athelstaneford Home Of The Saltire Juvenile Maiden Hurdle.
The Co Meath visitor is one of only two with form over timber although Lucinda Russell’s Johnny Ringo has some useful runs to his name on the Flat and is currently rated 80 on the level.
