Ben Macey was all smiles after recording his first Musselburgh victory aboard All The Glory for his bosses Jonjo & A J O’Neill.
The Jackdaws Castle raider, sent off 3/1 favourite, saw off Sunday Soldier by two and a quarter lengths in the Musselburgh Racecourse Premium Annual Membership Mares’ Handicap Hurdle.
“It’s my first visit here and it’s a lovely track,” said Macey after just the fourth winner of his short career. “This mare has really come back to form and she’s very useful at her best as she showed in the Mares’ Final at Newbury last season.”
Wise Eagle was an impressive winner of the Gordon & Halliday Flooring Contractors Maiden Hurdle under Craig Nichol.
“He loves it here as he’s also won four times on the Flat,” said winning trainer Adam Nicol. “We’ve had him in training since January so he might have one more run and then avoid the deep winter ground and come back over hurdles in the spring. Then he could go for the Queen’s Cup here on the Flat over Easter as it’s a race he has won in the past.”
There was Scottish success from Sandy Forster’s Dr Shirocco and Lucinda Russell-trained Chapel Green while Sandy Thomson’s good run continued when Theirshegoes landed the opener under stable conditional Lewis Dobb.
