Rock Melody, trained by Jim Goldie, sprung a 20-1 upset as she landed the feature race at Musselburgh for the second year running.

Expertly ridden by Amie Waugh, she was once again threaded through the eye of a needle to secure the £25,000 British EBF Premier fillies’ Handicap.

“She just loves getting into, and out of, trouble,” Goldie reported afterwards. “Amie was brilliant on her and this was the target for the end of the season. I don’t think you’ll see her on the all-weather during the winter.”

The Renfrewshire trainer had earlier sparked a double as Ayr Poet landed a gamble in the opener to supply Irvine-born Megan Davies with her first winner.

Sent off the 3-1 favourite, the nine-year-old cruised into the lead before see off True Nation by a length and three-quarters.

“He was super and took me there the whole way - I just sat there,” said Davies, who has had one ride in a bumper and six on the Flat. “I thought coming to the two pole he was still travelling and that this could be my first winner! 

“Mr Goldie just said get him to jump from the stalls and just try to stay up there. Also just to sit as handy as possible and not panic.”

Galston handler Mike Smith stuck with Golden Valour while Iain Jardine scored with Sutue Alshams, who was retained without a big after winning the seller.
