Lizzie Quinlan enjoyed a 64/1 double at Musselburgh with Minella Youngy and Evenwood Sonofagun.
The former, ridden by her husband Sean, took the George Crawford Legacy Trust Handicap before the latter shouldered top-weight to victory under Ross Chapman in the Visit racingtv.com Novices’ Limited Handicap Hurdle.
“Minella Youngy is owned by David Armstrong and I’m delighted for him as he’s been a great supporter of me since I started training,” the Appleby handler said. “We didn’t bring him back into the winners’ enclosure as he had a cut leg due to an overreach.
“I’m also very pleased to win a race with Evenwood Sonofagun on his 29th start. He’s such a trier and hopefully that will have done his confidence the world of good.”
It was due to a medical emergency that the following race was delayed by 30 mins and the concluding conditional jockeys’ handicap hurdle was squeezed in just a quarter of an hour later in the gathering gloom.
Nick Alexander’s good run continued as his conditional jockey Dominic Hislop recorded his first jumps success aboard Beat The Retreat in the Every Race Live On Racing TV Handicap Hurdle.
Carlisle-born Hislop also rode his first Flat winner at the East Lothian venue in an amateur riders’ event on Bulls Aye in October, 2023.
