Mona Na Slieve took the feature race at Musselburgh for Shane Gray and Kevin Ryan as the new Flat season in Scotland got underway.
“We’ve liked him and now he’s shown us what he can do,” Gray said. “He’ve loved that ground and made good use of a handy draw.”
Ardisia showed a likeable attitude to land the Livescore Bet EBF Restricted Novice Stakes for Jason Hart and Hugo Palmer.
“I rode another horse in a racecourse gallop he was involved with at Wolverhampton but that’s the first time I’ve sat on him today,” Hart said. “I like his attitude to go through a tight gap which is always a good sign for a newcomer.”
Hart competed a double when Zowal made a winning debut for John and Sean Quinn in the Livescore Bet Best Odds Daily Confined Maiden Stakes.
“He’s an ex-French horse we’ve always liked since we bought him at the sales last year,” Sean Quinn said. “He’s got something about him and has shown us a bit of speed at home.”
Throne Hall and Brodie Hampson landed gamble with an all-the-way success in the opening Virgin Bet Supporting Amateur Jockeys’ Handicap.
“I had my own way in front and I knew he was starting to show signs of a revival,” Hampson said. “He has form off a much higher mark so he had a chance if he could back back on track.”
