Media Shooter sprung a 14/1 upset in the £20,000 Champagne Pommery Brut Royal Gold Cup Handicap on sold out Ladies Day at Musselburgh.
Ridden by Sam James and trained by Karl Burke, he made his first attempt at seven-furlongs a winning one by seeing off 7/5 favourite Gressington by nearly three-lengths.
“I was always in the ideal spot as you have to be round here with that bend coming soo quickly after the start,” James said. “He seemed to enjoy the longer trip, and the cheekpieces helped too, and there could be more improvement to come as he’s still just a three-year-old.”
James and Burke had earlier teamed up to land the opening British Stallion Studs EBF Novices Stakes with King Of Light.
“He’s been gelded since his last run and Karl was confident he would run very well,” James added. “He’s the type of horse that should make a decent sprinter as he can only get faster.”
