Stobo Castle Ladies Day Sold Out

It’s the 12th consecutive year the East Lothian track has sold out its premier summer race day and will welcome a capacity crowd in excess of 10,000.

The feature race, the £100,000 William Hill Scottish Sprint Cup (3.10pm) has attracted 42 entries which will be whittled down to 17 runners, with the next 17 highest rated horses entered in the consolation £40,000 William Hill Tartan Trophy.

The David Griffiths trained Duke of Firenze will be hoping to do better than last year’s third place while also looking to improve on 2016 is fourth placed Kimberella, trained by Richard Fahey.

Lambourne based trainer Charlie Hills, a rare raider at Musselburgh, has entered A Momentofmadness and has former champion jockey Silvestre De Sousa booked for the five furlong ride, while Tony Coyle has entered Caspian Prince, a course and distance winner at Musselburgh last year and the recent winner of the highly regarded Investec Corporate Banking “Dash” at Epson, where it finished ahead of both Duke of Firenze and A Momentofmadness in third and fourth places respectively.

Musselburgh Racecourse chief executive, Bill Farnsworth, said: “We are delighted to achieve yet another capacity sell-out Stobo Castle Ladies Day and with just under £200,000 prize money on the day, we can expect a cracking atmosphere to match the high quality racing on offer.”

Ladies Day at Musselburgh is the most glamorous occasion on the Scottish racing calendar and while Flat fans will have plenty to cheer about on the track, the fashion conscious have no shortage of attractions.

The Queen of Style, the best dressed lady of the day, will take home a £5000 prize, The King of Style can spruce himself up with £1000 Slater vouchers, while Sally-Ann Provan Millinery will gift a £300 voucher to the race goer with the Best Hat. Meanwhile, international fashion expert and television host, Gok Wan, will add a sparkle when he takes to the stage as DJ for the after-racing party.

Race goers can also win £1000 in the racecourse’s Style Reigns Supreme social media competition by having their photograph taken and sharing it on Instagram or Twitter with the hashtag #StoboLadiesDay.

Gates open on Saturday at 11am, first race is at 1.35pm and race goers are advised to check the racecourse website for information on access and free railway station shuttle bus services.
